Umut Ozan Gorkem
Cardiff, UK · Computer Science at the University of South Wales
I’m a Computer Science student with a foundation in electrical engineering, working across the full stack — from AI-powered SaaS to quantum circuits and autonomous robotics.
Right now I’m building MeetingBrief, an AI meeting-briefing product; HyChef, a three-tier food-safety platform for UK restaurants; and AniDate, an anime-themed matching app. I lead a chess-playing robotic arm in our university robotics lab, write real-time telemetry for the Formula Student race team, and explore quantum algorithms with Qiskit.
Mostly I write TypeScript, Python, C++, Kotlin, and PHP. I’m comfortable in Next.js, React Native / Expo, Laravel, Jetpack Compose, and Unity. Tools: Git, Docker, Supabase, Firebase, Stripe, MySQL.
Outside code I co-host The Unthinkers, a philosophy podcast on existentialism and the philosophy of mind, and I play guitar, harmonica, and bağlama.
Projects
-
MeetingBrief
AI-powered meeting-briefing SaaS. Analyzes your Google Calendar and auto-generates briefing reports on attendees and agenda. My own product — past the MVP stage, with an April 2026 feasibility report. Newspaper-style 'Editorial' theme.
-
HyChef
Three-tier restaurant / food-safety SaaS. The mobile app handles weekly food diaries, temperature checks, and PDF reporting against the UK's SFBB (Safer Food, Better Business) and HACCP standards; the web side is the dashboard; the backend serves the API.
-
AniDate
Anime-themed dating / matching mobile app. Tinder-style card swiping, an anime catalogue from the Jikan API, and a quiz bank to drive matches.
-
Iron Pilgrimage
A top-down roguelike autoshooter where you pilot a growing war-train instead of a character. Builds form through a wagon-composition system: Attack Wagons fire automatically, Buff Wagons attach event-driven listeners, and specific buff pairs trigger hidden Resonance mutations that replace their listeners with a single, stronger combined effect. The core twist is physical growth as the risk model — every wagon raises damage but extends your hitbox and turning radius, so stronger equals less control. Pre-demo, Unity, three-person indie team targeting a Sector 0 → Sector 1 vertical slice for Steam.
